Another Update September 20!

Dear Visitor,

Tennis continues to be recognised as a good example of an activity that can be undertaken safely during the current restrictions and has an important role in keeping people active. We are delighted to be able to offer plenty of opportunities to keep playing during the autumn - just wrap up warm!

October Box Leagues – Singles and Doubles

Following the great turn-out in singles and doubles for the September fun competition, we are preparing for the October Box Leagues. They will start on Friday 2 October and finish Monday 2 November.

We will continue our singles box leagues and doubles box leagues for all members. You can enter as a men’s, ladies’ or mixed couple. It is an excellent way of meeting and playing with other members and the doubles league should provide greater opportunity for participation for non-singles players.

There has been a lot of interest in the double’s competition and we are accepting two entries from a person in the doubles competition if not playing singles. In this case, you will be placed in two leagues, perhaps one with a mixed focus and the other with a level doubles focus.

The doubles leagues will be based on ability and your partnership will be placed in a league with players of comparable standard.

Please let Paul know by Sunday 27th Sept if you wish to enter or withdraw from the box league at . We use a WhatsApp group, "BLTC Box Leagues" to share information.

The concept of Box Leagues - Singles and doubles box league - Each player or pair in the league will play a “round robin” format throughout October. You will play your opponent(s) for two sets only. Normal rules, at 6-6 a tiebreak is required. The winner of the league is by total points (3 for winning a match, 2 for a draw and 1 for losing), then most sets, then difference of sets and if we need to do this, difference in games.

Please use the current systems of the club website and WhatsApp group to arrange matches and record results.

This may mean quite a lot of tennis for people but coordinated you can have singles and doubles throughout October.

Adult Coaching Programmes

The Cardio Tennis taster was very popular and well received, and we are planning to introduce more adult classes in the next couple of months. Specifically, we are considering an Adult Beginners class, Tennis Drills, and another block of Cardio.

If you are interested in any of the above, please let Pawel know so that we can gauge attendance numbers and the best time to offer classes.

Junior Holiday Camps

Pawel is running Junior Holiday Camps during the October break from 19th to 23rd October. Details and booking (essential) on Holiday Camp page

Committee Membership

Please have a think about standing for a position on the club committee as committee roles will be coming up for election. In particular, we will need a new Membership Secretary to help us reorganise our system and potentially to move towards a more flexible fee structure. This will involve a bit of work setting up over the winter but will hopefully mean we have a much less labour-intensive process going forward.

Auditor Wanted!!

We are in urgent need of someone to review the club accounts in the next month. This does not require an accountancy qualification, just someone who can check that the money in and out of the bank account has been properly recorded in the accounts, and that they make sense. It would not take more than a few hours of your time. Please contact me if you are able to help us.

Social Doubles

We will continue to run social doubles sessions on Sunday afternoons, Monday evenings and Thursday evenings according to demand. In order to comply with LTA recommendations, places need to be booked in advance at  Coaching page and will be organised via the WhatsApp social tennis group. Please contact Henry Allen if you would like to be added to the social tennis group chat.

Best Regards
