Coronavirus - BLTC Update

Dear Visitor,

We hope that you and your family are keeping well during these difficult days. As you would expect, the committee are keeping a close eye on recommendations from the government and the LTA to ensure that we are following best practices to keep our members safe.

At the time of writing, the advice from the LTA remains that “The Department of Culture, Media and Sport has specifically advised us that tennis is one of the best examples of social distancing in practice, and so should be encouraged as long as the guidance permits”

We have therefore taken the decision to keep the tennis courts open for the moment, subject to the specific rules below being strictly observed by all players. Obviously, individuals must make their own judgement about what is a safe activity for them, their families and community. If we have reason to believe that adequate measures are not being taken by members then we will have no alternative than to close the entire facility.

In addition to the measures already communicated and well reported regarding keeping at least 2 metres away from other people at all times, self-isolating if unwell, and to wash hands and equipment before and after play, please note the following requirements:

  • No more than 8 players (plus coach) to be on court at any one time
  • This limit is inclusive of coach priority on Court 1 Mondays to Fridays 09:00 - 16:00, Saturday 09:00-13:00 and all courts at Junior Class times. An updated court usage chart will be issued shortly
  • Private coaching will continue
  • If people are waiting to play, normal club Regulation 6 of rotating after each set applies at all times
  • Players should bring their own marked tennis balls and touch only those belonging to their own family group
  • If waiting to play, maintain 2 metre distance from others outside or stay in car
  • The Clubhouse is CLOSED for use except for access to wash hand basin ONLY - strictly 1 person at a time
    • Wipe down all surfaces and switches touched with antibacterial wipes or handtowels provided
    • Dispose of wipes and towels safely and considerately
    • The toilet must not be used
    • The kitchen must not be used
  • Regulation 3 is suspended - Members are not permitted to bring guests to the court

I will be writing to parents of Junior members separately to outline measures we are implementing around Junior activity and coaching. In the meantime please ensure that your child follows these procedures too.

Further detailed guidance may be found on the LTA website

Memberships expired at the end of February and therefore we will be changing the padlock codes with effect from 1 April. Please go online to renew your membership as normal. We appreciate that these are extremely uncertain times but hope that normality will resume soon. We need to ensure that our clubhouse, courts and floodlights continue to be maintained and there are bills to pay, so I would encourage you to support the club and to renew your membership subscription if you can. We will not offer access to the courts to non-members for the time being.

With best wishes
