May Newsletter & Preparation for Re-opening

Dear Visitor,

I hope this email finds you and your family well.

While the current Scottish Government advice is to stay at home, the courts remain closed. We hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and that we will be allowed to resume tennis again soon.

We have been reviewing the LTA advice issued to English tennis clubs in anticipation that the First Minister will eventually give Scottish tennis clubs the go ahead to open using similar guidelines. Current detailed LTA guidance can be read here. I must stress that these are preliminary (so subject to change following further information from the Scottish Government and the LTA), but the following are the measures which we are likely to implement when we are permitted to reopen.

We are committed to doing all that we can to make tennis an enjoyable and safe form of exercise, and hope that you will help us to make that happen by supporting these measures.

Membership access:

  • Only BLTC adult and junior members will be allowed to play. Please renew your membership if you have not already done so
  • All payments must be made by bank transfer
  • No guests will be allowed in the interim; however, temporary monthly memberships will be available
  • Play will be restricted to singles between individuals from different households
  • Members from the same household may play doubles
  • One to One coaching for members will resume, within specific LTA guidelines

During play:

  • Players should observe good hygiene recommendations already published
  • Tennis balls should be marked and only handled by the owner
  • No changing of ends
  • Observe good social distancing when arriving and leaving
  • Parents must ensure that Junior members also follow guidelines

Facilities:

  • Clubhouse will remain closed apart from emergency access to toilet and first aid
  • Benches will be removed from the court
  • Hand sanitiser will be provided at the gate, but members should bring their own
  • We are working on a court booking system to prevent unnecessary waiting to play and to ensure fair access
  • No club balls will be available

We all hope that tennis will be able to resume safely as soon as possible, and I will be in touch again once the situation is clear.

Best wishes
